Intertraffic Amsterdam 2006, the leading exhibition for infrastructure, traffic management, safety and parking attracted 23,890 visitors from no less than 110 different countries. Its international character was reinforced on the exhibitor side as well, with 690 exhibitors from 41 different countries. The winners of the third Intertraffic Innovation Award for the most innovative exhibits were announced during the opening ceremony by mrs. Karla Peijs, the Dutch Minister of Transport, Public Works and Water Management. Vialis Traffic with their product ICT in Accessibility was chosen as the overall winner. Intertraffic Amsterdam 2006 was organized by Amsterdam RAI and took place from 4-7 April at the Amsterdam RAI Congress & Exhibition Center.

Satisfaction all around

The exhibitor number increased compared to the last edition of Intertraffic Amsterdam in 2004. This year 690 participants from 41 countries presented their latest products and services, whereas in 2004 679 exhibitors from 39 countries were present. Of the 23,890 visitors, 56 per cent came from outside the Netherlands.

Jacques Teichmann, CEO of the Spanish company IV Solar commented that their booth was crowded every day. “Our expectations are more than fulfilled. The international attendance was impressive and very professional.” Rudolf Broer, Managing Director of the German company RTB GmbH + Co. KG added that Intertraffic was, as always, inspiring: “Interesting ideas, interesting conversations and interesting people. Intertraffic Amsterdam 2006 was a complete success for our company and the visitor profile holds great promises for the 2008 edition. We are already looking forward to it.” Roland Michali, Marketing Communication Manager of German based Siemens AG only needed two words to describe his feelings about Intertraffic: “Perfect, excellent”.

Jeanneke Bolscher, Senior Product Manager of Intertraffic with Amsterdam RAI, is very happy with the positive reactions of the exhibitors. “The show has been very successful. We have raised the quality of the event even further, by introducing a number of new initiatives, such as the Future Plaza and a comprehensive seminar programme. Also the implementation of the product segmentation on the show floor has augmented the convenience for the visitor.”

Intertraffic Innovation Award

For the first time group awards were presented in three different categories. The winner for the category Infrastructure & Safety is NMA Verkeerstechniek for the Mobile Automatic Roadblock System. For the category Parking, the winner is NEDAP for its SENSIT. Vialis Traffic with their product ICT in Accessibility is the winner in the category Traffic Management and was also chosen as overall winner for the Intertraffic Innovation Award.

The jury was impressed with the fact that no fewer than 82 companies (95 products) entered the competition. The quality of the entrees was high. The deputy chairman of the jury, Fred Wegman, commented as follows on the three winning products:

Vialis Traffic – ICT in Accessibility

“In making this both the category and the overall winner, the jury acknowledged its systematic and comprehensive approach to providing a major metropolitan region with fully-sourced, real-time, public and private travel information through multi-channel distribution. As a contribution to the needs of the travelling public, the jury rated this a substantial advance – not least as the consortium that has developed it has maintained it following the end of purely public-sector funding in an innovative public-private partnership, and is actively working to transplant the concept elsewhere.”

NMA Verkeerstechniek – Mobile Automatic Roadblock System

“The jury recognized the safety benefits of this method of enabling temporary road works barrier laying and recovery to be carried out entirely from within a contractor’s truck, reducing both the risk of accidents to site workers and the time during which road sections are closed. The company is working on full automation of the process, for delivery within a year or so.”

NEDAP – SENSIT

“NEDAP’s SENSIT wireless vehicle detector comes across as a practical device that can easily be installed in existing parking bays to guide motorists to available spaces. Its ease of installation also benefits operators, by reducing cabling; other potential applications include traffic management.”

Mirjam Visser, Manager Communication of Vialis stated that Intertraffic is the most important event for Vialis to exchange views with dedicated customers and new prospects in an informal environment. “The 2006 exhibition has again been very successful for Vialis, not in the least because Vialis Traffic received the very prestigious Innovation Award.”
